You’ll find a warm welcome at Gibside whatever the weather this Christmas. As well as miles of woodland trails providing the perfect backdrop to a winter walk, there’s plenty of Christmas cheer for all of the family to discover.

Gibside is fabulous at any time of the year but they really like to push the boat out in December. There are plenty of craft workshops (make decorations or a wreath for your door) and the chance to enjoy traditional hymns and festive faves in the chapel (those candlelit nights are unsurpassed). On 17 December join the North East Gospel Choir for Christmas hits and gospel classics, while on 19 December the Caedmon Choir will be belting out a mix of traditional and contemporary songs (the mulled wine always goes down well at these events). There is plenty of family fun too: find Gibside’s 12 trees of Christmas and follow the trail up to the Stables where you’ll fine a cosy woodland grotto (Santa!). Gibside is also good for a Boxing Day breather, with miles of trails and valley views, and from 27 December-3 January you can follow clues and complete activities to discover Gibside’s hidden wildlife on their Winter Trail. Stop for a mid-walk refuel and enjoy a hot chocolate at the Stables Café or round off your walk with a festive scone at the Marketplace Café. Sold!
