The Affordable Art Fair is very much one of those occasions where you can wheel out the phrase: does what it says on the tin. It’s coming to Birtley in November.

I have a number of original artworks hanging in my flat and I can honestly say they make me happy every time I look at them (which is more than I can say for my kettle). Original art can really light up a home and that’s why I’m chomping at the bit to check out the next Affordable Art Fair. And with prices starting from a tenner (and going up to £200), it’s also a great place to pick up a Christmas gift. The show has been curated with the focus on high quality, fresh and dynamic work, with photography, illustration, painting, drawing and collage all represented. The work displayed comes from international and local artists including Jake Mullin’s interior design prints, Nikki Brewer’s graphic collages (work pictured) and Beth J Ross’s abstract original paintings. Fill yer boots.

Affordable Art Fair, 16 November-31 January, Gallery, Thought Foundation, Clarity House, Durham Road, Birtley. (There will also be a late night shopping event on 14 November, 5-9pm.) More details: thoughtfoundation.co.uk
