Remember late summer? We had a Prime Minister who didn’t flagrantly break the law and James Cracknell still harboured thoughts of making it past the first round on Strictly. Heady times. It was also when Talk Like Tigers’ second single ‘Move’ was slapped with one of our Single Of The Month rosettes. And with good reason. The pair play electro-pop, which mixes acoustic instruments with synths, and ‘Move’ was one of their slinkier affairs; a gorgeous ballad that dialled the shiver-up-your-spine-o-meter to the max. And their propulsive dream-pop has won them much acclaim far beyond the historic walls of their native Tyneside. Tom “knows what he’s talking about” Robinson caught their last show at Sage Gateshead and frothed about how they “blew me away”. They went down a storm at this year’s Glastonbury and Huw Stephens has played their stuff on BBC Radio 1 (they’ve also been all over BBC 6 Music). Their vocal harmonies really come to the fore in the live arena, which is handy, as they’ve got a headline gig coming up in Newcastle this November. Time to put a Tiger in your tank.
