love POKE, you love POKE, the whole world loves POKE. And – praise be! – the fabulous club night is back in October with what I believe is known in the biz as a Halloween Special.

POKE celebrated its 10th anniversary this year the only way that they know how: with a raucous party to end all raucous parties. Except it didn’t end all raucous parties, did it? No, because they’re back again this October and ready to get all alternative on our asses once again. As is customary they will be encouraging Halloween fancy dress with fantastic prizes in store for the best turned out. (And the categories are: Best Make-Up, Best Drag and Best Pop Cultural (TV, film, celebs, politics etc).) The winners will be announced at the witching hour, following a frightfully wicked performance from Choriza May. If you’ve not sampled POKE before then you should know that their DJs spin only the best in indie, electro, new wave, punk, pop and RnB and the vibe is second to none. Why pole dance when you can POKE dance?

POKE: Halloween Special, Saturday 26 October, Star & Shadow, Warwick Street, Newcastle, 9pm-3am, £4-£8. starandshadow.org.uk
