Double top at Alphabetti
‘I’ve always loved darts and the idea for the show came to me when I was at the World Darts Championship watching Phil Taylor win and thought: what’s it really like to be the best in the world at something?’ That’s Director Annie Rigby talking about ‘Best in the World’, which had its premiere in Newcastle seven years ago. Since then it has played the Edinburgh Fringe and right across the UK to glittering notices. Rigby: ‘Darts champions are very often ordinary people, normally a bit older than other world champions, and whereas what some athletes do might seem impossible for us to achieve, everyone can identify with stepping up to the oche and attempting to throw a perfect dart. I think most of us at some point in our lives have “gold medal” moments and we want to try and capture and celebrate those moments. We’re delighted to bring the show to Alphabetti, which is one of the few theatres I can think of that has a dartboard in the bar. It also feels special to bring the show back to our home city after touring it.’ Bully’s special prize was never this good.
