Local artists are working together to ‘open up’ the town’s arts scene and launch an Open Studios project that welcomes visitors into various creative and historic venues in Gateshead, many of which are normally closed to the public.

Take it away, William Fawkes (pictured), artist and organiser of Gateshead Open Studios: “2018’s pilot attendance figures were much higher than expected and we had lots of great visitor feedback. So this year is the big launch! We plan to do a two-day event.” Fancy that! The event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to meet local artists and designers in their studios and discuss their creative processes, as well as exploring the beautiful architectural art and design of historic venues. Taking place across the half term weekend in October, the project will run free creative workshop activities, welcoming all ages and abilities to take part, as well as offering an opportunity for visitors to buy original art and craft pieces directly from the artists.
