Style & Stuff Editorial
Angel Olsen, Foals and Michael Kiwanuka have all got new singles out in the remainder of 2019 but they’ll have to go some to dislodge Peggy Gou’s house banger ‘Starry Night’ from the top of my Single Of The Year list. The Seoul-born DJ made headlines when she became the first woman to play Berlin’s famous Berghain club, and earlier this year she played a set at Digital in Newcastle that literally set the dancefloor on fire (note: not literally). She’s also caught the eye of many a fashionista because of her own look in which she casually mixes together bold prints, unorthodox cuts and plenty of layering. And now she’s transferred her dashing style into a label of her very own, which is going under the name of Kirin. This includes gems such as a velvet-edged lavender and green checked suit, intarsia sweaters emblazoned with the Korean haetae (it’s a mythical tiger thing) and baseball shirt-dresses. There are many instances of celebs turning fashion designer – usually with so-so results – but I reckon Peggy has really got it Gou-ing on.
Peggy Gou’s Kirin label is available from select outlets from mid-September.
