There will be thrills aplenty when this year’s Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance opens its doors in August.

And one of the highlights of this year’s festival is sure to be ‘The Creative Spirit of John Curry’ which will enjoy its world premiere at Billingham Forum Ice Arena on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 August. This will feature, among others, Mark Hanretty, Vanessa Bauer and Nina Ulanov from ITV’s ‘Dancing on Ice’. It promises to be a real extravaganza but it’s only one chunk of this festival, which is now in its 55thyear. Dancers from countries across the globe will flock to the town including Columbia (pictured), China, Brazil, India, South Korea and more. Other highlights will include ‘Scenes of Childhood’ (family show), ‘Love and Spice’ (dance, music and food from Balbir Singh Company) and a flash mob curated by Eliot Smith Dance. There will also be spectacular opening and closing ceremonies choreographed by Robby Graham of Southpaw Dance Company.
