The always amazing Gala Theatre Stage School are presenting ‘Chicago: High School Edition’ in July and August. Get ready for some sizzle.

If you like a bit of heat in the summer months then make sure you book yourself in for a session with the Gala Theatre Stage School who, this year, are turning their (jazz) hands to ‘Chicago’. The story? In roaring twenties Chicago chorus girl Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap – until, that is, he finds out that he’s been duped and turns on her. Oh no! Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another merry murderer, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the American Dream: fame, fortune and acquittal. Expect a sharp-edged satire with one of the most dazzling scores in the history of musicals.

Chicago: High School Edition, Wednesday 31 July-Saturday 3 August, Gala Theatre, Durham, 7.30pm (Mats Thurs & Sat 2.30pm), £16 (£14 conc). galadurham.co.uk
