simonsmith.jpg Summer’s here!

This year the Biscuit Factory’s summer show has a botanical bent and takes in arts, crafts, food and more.

Headlining this year’s summer show is painter Simon M Smith who creates floral works with dress pattern tissue, torn paper and soft colour washes (‘Still Life with Grapes and a Bird’ - pictured) Curator Sam Knowles: “What better way to celebrate summer at the gallery than with the wonderful paintings of Simon S Smith. With flowers as his regular subject matter Simon’s work is unashamedly beautiful and decorative, revealing his love for the bold shapes and colours of nature.” Taking a cue from his work are new additions to the Biscuit Factory workshop programme including botanical embroidery hoop art, and styling and composition photography classes using a variety of props. In-house café The Factory Kitchen have also partnered with Hepple Gin to present Sloe Sundays – a weekly gin bar on the rooftop terrace with a soul playlist and botanical specials on the menu. Sold!

Summer exhibition, until 25 August, Biscuit Factory, Stoddart Street, Newcastle. thebiscuitfactory.com
