What does this Guy want?
New Art Social first began to conjure up its own brand of magic in 2017 with a mission to showcase upcoming and established poets and prose writers. Their latest event will feature Guy Mankowski reading from his new novel ‘Camden Afterlife’, which is about the wild summer of a teenage boy struggling to get over the death of his sister, a rising star on the nineties Riot Grrrl scene. There will also be a panel discussion on the crossover between creativity and spirituality with Frances Moffatt, a lecturer illustrator specialising in fashion, beauty and lifestyle, and Roberta Louise Green, co-founder of artist collective Candy Vortex. Add in Shaun Wilson (who featured in Kit de Waal’s ‘Common People’ anthology – which sold out its first print run in days), prose writer Nikita Garner, and poets Natalie Crick and Niamh O’Connell, and you’ve got a night out and a half.
New Art Social, Monday 8 July, Ernest, 1 Boyd Street, Newcastle, 7pm, £3.50 on the door. facebook.com/groups/newartsocial
