folktyne19.jpg Folk: All mine, all mine

The Folk on the Tyne festival at Sage Gateshead will feature a day packed with gigs, workshops, free performances and family stuff.

I can feel that you’re wanting me to cut to the chase and chuck a headliner at you. Well, cop for Billy Bragg who will perform in the main hall on Saturday 27 July. What’s left to say about this national treasure and voice of reason except that he remains one of the UK’s most captivating performers. But he’s just one of the reasons why you should be getting excited about Folk on the Tyne. Bragg will be supported by the superb Holly Clarke and the Reivers. Clarke studied folk and traditional music at Newcastle University and wowed audiences when supporting The Unthanks last year. Headlining the afternoon session is a six times winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Karine Polwart (pictured). Also appearing will be Hannah Read, Jack Rutter, MG Boulter, The Furrow Collective and many other big names. Add in the aforementioned workshops and free performances and you’ve got a day overflowing with folky goodness.
