drpacker19.jpg Packing real tunes

Dr Packer is the alias of West Australian DJ/producer Greg Packer and he’s something of a wow when it comes to juzzing up classic hits of yore.

Greg Packer is well known down under for pioneering the drum & bass sound in Australia but in his Dr Packer guise he paddles in distinctly different waters that encompass 70s, 80s, 90s soul, disco, funk, hip-hop and reggae. In 2013 he started picking up re-edits of classic songs and he loved the way the original songs were beefed up and sounded on a club system while still retaining the original vibe. And it was in 2013 that he produced his first two edits under the name Dr Packer, which caught the attention of labels such as Defected, Z Records, Disco Dat and Masterworks Music. He has went on to officially remix the likes of Bootsy Collins and Robert Owens but you need to experience him behind the decks to feel the full power of his skills. Get on it.

Dr Packer DJ Set, Friday 2 August, Hoochie Coochie, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, doors 7pm (on stage 9pm), £10. hoochiecoochie.co.uk
