The Allergies are the kind of funk and soul outfit that have dragged funk and soul into the 21st century and they’ll be going large when they visit Hoochie Coochie this June. Giddyup.

The prolific Bristol duo The Allergies are true crate diggers with the pair absorbing everything from hip-hop to funk to techno and distilling it all into supremely energetic DJ sets. “We like breaks, funky basslines, horns and dancefloor grooves. We’re inspired by the golden eras of funk, soul, disco and hip-hop.” Since forming in 2012 they have made a real name for themselves releasing two funk-fuelled albums on the super-hot Jalapeno Records. Their last long-player ‘Push On’ was a real melting pot of vintage licks and modern production and it featured heavily on many end of year round-ups when it dropped in 2017 taking the Album of the Year gong on BBC 6 Music thanks to Craig Charles’ constant championing. Get set for some real block-party action when they hit Hoochie Coochie this June.

The Allergies DJ set, Friday 7 June, Hoochie Coochie, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, 7pm (on stage 9.30pm), £7. hoochiecoochie.co.uk
