eddireader19.jpg Are you ready for Eddi?

Eddi Reader is celebrating her 40th year as a live performer the only way she knows how: by singing her ruddy heart out. She’s at the Gala in Durham this June.

Eddi Reader, of course, once lent her considerable vocal talents to Fairground Attraction who I remember seeing at the Riverside back in 1988, just as their debut single ‘Perfect’ hit the top of the charts (they played it twice). But since those heady days Reader has carved out a real niche for herself as a solo performer of real note, culminating in last year’s super ‘Cavalier’ release, an enthralling album that featured a mix of traditional songs, covers and self-penned compositions. Her Scottish lilt remains captivating and she sings with a gentle passion that draws you in like a soft breath of clear, fresh air. I’ve seen her perform many times since that gig at the Riverside and on each occasion it has proved an exhilarating experience. Thankfully her latest tour will see her stopping off in Durham and I can’t wait to make her acquaintance once again.
