davechristine.jpg Kelly! Collister! Unstoppable!

When Dave Kelly, founder member of The Blues Band, and Christine Collister, UK folk royalty, get together, the results are spectacular.

Dave Kelly and Christine Collister originally got together back in 1994 to record a session for The Paul Jones Radio Two show. A fan recently handed Kelly a copy of that recording and he was so impressed he decided to get back in touch with Collister to see if she fancied getting together to play some shows. She did. And how. These concerts have been winning a whole raft of rave reviews and draw on material from both their musical backgrounds, but mainly songs which they both love but have not previously had the chance to perform. I’m talking soul standards, country songs, folk, Stax, Tamla Motown, The Band, Emmylou Harris, The Everly Brothers, Elvis and a good sprinkling of contemporary singer/songwriters. The Blues Band – which Kelly founded – have just celebrated their 40thanniversary tour, but it’s great news that this stalwart of the scene has found time to get back out on the road with Collister who has played with everyone from Richard Thompson to Loudon Wainwright III. A night to file under ‘Unforgettable’.
