Give us pop! (not hate)
Super looking? Oh yes! I’m talking Band of Holy Joy, a six-piece, hard-to-pin-down beast who are adept at filling a room with light and wonder. Their supremely melodic ways and means are hard to describe but you should know they’re big lovers of The Jefferson Airplane, Subway Sect, Funkadelic and Mary J Blige. Also on the bill is Wylam’s very excellent Helen McCookerybook, who was once in The Chefs and Helen and the Horns – both John Peel faves – and has recorded with artists such as Gina Birch of The Raincoats and Vic Godard. Making up the line-up is Oldfield Youth Club (who formed last August and are working on their debut album which is overflowing with catchy pop) and Hector Gannet (featuring Aaron Duff and Jack Coe – formerly of The Middens). There will also be DJ action with Michael Clunkie hitting the decks. Gonna be good? Gonna be great!
