Redcar’s Kirkleatham Museum are showcasing a powerful celebration of our region’s steel and industrial heritage.

This interactive exhibition is the culmination of 12 months of community engagement and research, showcasing stories, artefacts and pictures from real people who worked and lived in the steel industry and community. Using a variety of display techniques, different stories of steel will come to life throughout the museum and grounds: walk through a locker room, listen to stories told by real people, see the historic timeline and look to the future as the stories of steel move from the past to the present. Tony Poynter, former Union Branch Secretary: “Teesside’s heritage has been created by the thousands who worked in our iron and steel industry for 160 years. Steel Stories enables our young people and future generations to understand why iron and steelmaking will always be so important to this area.”
