I think it’s fair to say that clubbers on the hunt for underground sounds will be giving Brutus Gold’s Love Train a big swerve in December. Their loss.

Christ! I’ve just read that Brutus Gold has been getting his hoards of followers to do The Hustle for 28 years now. 28 years! And in that time they’ve taken their disco fuelled show around the globe – from Switzerland to Dubai – and have even put on private parties for the likes of Tina Turner (“I danced all night”) to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. They get a full cast of 1970s characters up on stage to help whip clubbers into a frenzy but their secret weapon is always the music. You literally can’t beat ‘Stayin’ Alive’, ‘Sex Machine’, ‘Boogie Wonderland’, ‘Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’, ‘Carwash’, ‘Le Freak’ etc and in the run up to Christmas these disco classics are guaranteed to get your rump rotating on the dancefloor. Our advice: Go for Gold.

Brutus Gold’s Love Train, Friday 14 December, O2 Academy, Newcastle, 9pm-2am, £23 (VIP tickets £34.25), academymusicgroup.com/o2academynewcastle
