littletheatre.jpg Little Theatre turns 75!

Little Theatre in Gateshead is home to the Progressive Players and is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2018 with three very different productions before the turn of the year.

The renowned Progressive Players are fully intent on finishing this special year for Little Theatre in fine style with three modern classics. First up is Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Bedroom Farce’ featuring three bedrooms, four couples and one very long, and very funny Saturday night. In November they have Francis Durbridge’s ‘Fatal Encounter’. Not so much a ‘whodunnit’ as a ‘whydunnit’ it features Howard who is concerned for his wife, Joanna, who is unusually distressed since her return from the country. The play takes a sinister turn when Howard arrives home to find Perry, a former friend, has been shot by Joanna in a struggle… In December they’re giving us ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman, in which, after a mix-up, a fading Hollywood star has his ego tested when he winds up playing King Lear with a bunch of enthusiastic am-dram thesps. It should bring the curtain down nicely on what is a very special year for the theatre.

Bedroom Farce, Monday 8-Saturday 13 October; Fatal Encounter, Monday 12-Saturday 17 November; A Bunch of Amateurs, Monday 10-Saturday 15 December. All 7.15pm, £9/£7. littletheatregateshead.co.uk
