A woman only event arrives on Friday February 15 in the shape of ‘King Of The Castle’ a drag king competition at the West End Women & Girls Centre, Elswick Road, Newcastle (7.30pm-1am) where there will be three themed heats – evening/club wear, sleep/swim wear, performance – along with prizes, raffle, bar and disco. Then on Saturday February 16 there is ‘The Pain of Laughter’ with the esteemed broadcaster and writer, Wes Butters, delivering a hugely informative talk about the lives and work of Kenneth Williams (pictured) and fellow Carry On star Charles Hawtrey. This will take place at the History Room in Newcastle University Students Union, 2pm-4pm, and is free. And don’t forget, Pride Radio is continuing this month and featuring everything from the history of cheesy pop to LGBT health matters.
