BridieJacksonTheSecretGarden2013.jpg Bridie Jackson and The Arbour

And The Arbour are quite superb. Hats doffed in the direction of Jenny (cello), Carol (vocals) and Rachel (fiddle, vocals) who provide the backdrop for an ethereal folky sound which isn’t overburdened with instrumentation, but doesn’t have a single note out of place. This is all very evident on their new, double A-side single, ‘Scarecrow / All You Love Is All You Are’ which is a perfect demonstration of how the band are able to wring real power out of their vocal harmonies, and catch-your-breath melodies. And Jackson’s vocals are imbued with the kind of quiet power that really makes you sit up and listen. The band launched their debut album with a sell-out show at The Sage Gateshead in January and we imagine that this new single will win them even more fans. It’s being launched at Cluny 2 in Newcastle on Friday February 8 (with support from Beccy Owen) with the band also playing a number of other gigs around the region this month including Bede’s World (February 1, Jarrow), The Watchtower (February 2, Berwick) and Moot Hall (February 9, Hexham).
