Our Crack Tongue & Groove
What fresh hell is this?
Pop Quiz: Who appeared on The Grease soundtrack album (and in the film) and also played at Woodstock? No? It was Sha Na Na, who, for reasons I’m unable to fathom, played the hippy festival in 1969 AND appeared as the house band during the prom scene in Grease. And their rock and roll standards filled the album out nicely helping to make it one of the biggest sellers of all time. And I like it; it’s a good album, with the biggest hits coming courtesy of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John: “Greased Lightnin’”, “Summer Nights”, “You’re The One That I Want” etc. But now they’ve went and done what literally no one in the world was asking for and teamed up again to make a Christmas album. To be fair, they haven’t just banged out a load of festive fluff, but have recorded an experimental slice of dubstep with Newton-John barking what sounds like the contents of her larder over the top (only kidding, it’s festival fluff).
My worst ever Christmas gift was a voucher that entitled me to be a baggage handler at Durham Tees Valley Airport for a week, but if anyone buys me this then I’ll be joining the Islamists in Mali who are currently trying to outlaw music. This is not the one that I want. RM
