Geordie soul, global goal

This June, the Boiler Shop in Newcastle will be transformed into a vibrant hub of innovation as Jerry J Clothing uses the popular venue to host its runway show ‘Shy Bairns Get Nowt’.

Jerry J Clothing was founded by Newcastle-based designer Lamin Gibba and so, naturally, their runway show feels like a perfect fit for the centre of toon. Inspired by the classic Geordie mantra “Shy bairns get nowt” the show embodies a message of ambition and initiative. But it’s more than just a fashion showcase: it’s a vital platform connecting designers, musicians, and media professionals, fostering real-world collaboration. The project has grown significantly since its last iteration, which attracted over 300 attendees and famously helped facilitate a collaboration with Dame Chi Onwurah MP. Lamin Gibba’s own journey, from The King’s Trust to becoming a Master’s student at Newcastle College University Centre, underscores the event’s ethos of growth and elevation, and as the brand expands its cultural footprint, this year’s show even sees potential international interest from the First Lady of The Gambia – bridging the gap between local talent and a global audience. Don’t miss this bold display of storytelling-driven fashion.
