Feeling Christmassy yet?

As you might expect Newcastle Cathedral have all kinds of good things going on this December including concerts that’ll make your heart soar. (Illustration: Jim Edwards.)

The Candlelit Carols events at Newcastle Cathedral are always real show-stoppers and this year there’s two of them (18 & 20 December). Featuring the Cathedral Choir, and a whole bunch of candles, the programme will include a tonne of classic carols such as ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’. If you’ve ever attended one of these nights then you’ll know they’re soul-stirring stuff, and if you haven’t then I’d recommend you make a date and treat yourself. Other ‘Concerts by Candlelight’ include the likes of Bublé Christmas (featuring a live big band and the UK’s number one Michael Bublé tribute act – 13 December), Christmas by Candlelight (a spectacular West End Cast and incredible live band perform all your fave Christmas hits as you’ve never heard them before – 14 December) and Vivaldi Four Seasons (this timeless classic gets the full works from The Piccadilly Sinfonietta – 21 December). One of Europe’s most successful female-led early music and folk ensembles Mediaeval Baebes will be doing their ethereal thing (19 December) and there will also be a host of charity events for Marie Curie, Crisis, and more. (Note: the cathedral is always seeking new choristers starting from age four and going up to teenage years.
