Off The Record is a juicy new night that should cater for your every hip-hop, funk and soul whim.

I’ve seen plenty of hip-hop bands “play” live but, for me, the best way to experience hip-hop (such as Run DMC – pictured) is in a club. And that’s just what Off The Record will let me (and you) do. It kicked off in September with Room 1 being given over to hip-hop, funk and soul with cuts from the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Al Green, LL Cool J, Evelyn “Champagne” King (hooray!), Jurassic 5, George Benson, James Brown and all that type of malarkey. Room 2 is taken up with Motown and disco and will be the place to head if you want to swing yer pants to Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Wild Cherry, The Temptations and plenty of curveball choices. Sound good? Sounds great!

Off The Record, every Monday, The Cut, 7 St. Nicholas Street, Newcastle, 11pm-3am, £5/£6. thecut.squarespace.com
