South Shields Museum & Art Gallery
Open: Mon-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat 11am-4pm Closed: Dec 19-Jan 8 This art gallery space has been specially refurbished using Arts Council England funding to enable an enhanced display of the works of art in the collection and to create a spotlight loan area.
Stephenson Railway Museum
Open: April-October weekends. Daily during school holidays. 11am-4pm. Museum admission is free. Train rides: Adult £2.45, Conc. £1.20, family £6.10. Explore the history of railways from steam to coal to electricity through interactive media and 'hands-on' exhibits. There's also the chance to re-live the days of the steam railway and take a ride on a real steam train.

Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens
Open: Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 2pm-5pm. Free admission. Discover the history of the city from its prehistoric past to the present day in the museum’s exciting displays augmenting the collections with hands-on exhibits and interactive displays. The art gallery features paintings by L.S. Lowry alongside Victorian masterpieces and artefacts from the four-corners of the world. The stunning Winter Gardens stimulate the senses with over 1,500 of the world’s most exotic flowers and plants. The gardens also include exciting water features and a stunning treetop walkway, from which visitors can look down on the plants below.

The Art Studio
Open: 10am-5pm Mon-Fri. Free admission. You can’t miss The Art Studio on St Michael’s Way in Sunderland. Primarily established to enable people with mental health problems to develop their skills. There are some magnificent pieces of work on show and workshops and open days where everyone is welcome.
The Auxiliary Warehouse
The Auxiliary Warehouse houses two galleries, studios, workshops and a tool library. The newest addition to the Tees Valley arts scene invites, champions and showcases both local and international artists through exciting, contemporary programming.

Daily 10am - 5pm. Free Entry. The Biscuit Factory is an independent art, craft and design gallery that champions the handmade and original. Representing over 250 artists in seasonal exhibitions there are two floors of gallery to explore with collections of paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles, glassware and jewellery for sale. An onsite cafe sells fresh, home-made, seasonal produce and is the ideal spot for lunch or brunch with a rooftop terrace.
