Penshaw Monument

penshaw.jpg Open dawn to dusk all year. Free. The monument dominates the skyline on Penshaw Hill, overlooking the river Wear. This Sunderland landmark was built in 1844 and is dedicated to John George Lambton, first Earl of Durham and the first Governor of Canada.
