Detail

An exhibition in response to the images and stories seen in the No Man’s Land exhibition hosted here at Bishop Auckland Town Hall in early 2019. Photographer Lee Dobson and writer Dr Lucie Brownlee worked with three local schools and a community group taking stimulus in particular from Chloe Dewe Mathews Shot at Dawn and Alison Baskerville’s Soldier images which formed part of the No Man’s Land exhibition. Working with the young people, aged from 10 to 19, Beyond No Man’s Land is a visual and literary interpretation of their stories growing up in and around Bishop Auckland. In settings which stir emotions and feelings, as in Shot at Dawn; and the story behind the subject’s eyes, as in Soldier, we see a range of images which these young people feel delivers to the audience their own sense of place and identity.
