Ifeoma U. Anyaeji (born 1981, Benin City, Nigeria) makes sculptures and installations from discarded bottles and non-biodegradable plastic bags. Using a method which she terms ‘Plasto-art’, Anyaeji creates intricately-woven structures and reliefs with a traditional Nigerian hair-plaiting technique called ‘threading’. For her first solo presentation in the UK, Anyaeji will present new and recent work in BALTIC’s level 2 gallery.
