This is Jake Houlsby who, for all intents and purposes, is Suntrapp. And judging by their/his first single, they’re/he’s jolly good.

“Yeah, it’s sort of complicated cause Suntrapp isn’t me,” Houlsby tells us, “but the band (for the time) solely consists of me, if that makes sense? It’s gonna grow into a band, especially for the live shows, but the best example is maybe like Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, where he’s solely in control of the direction. Or maybe even Justin Vernon from Bon Iver.” On listening to their debut single “All The Seas” I would definitely peg Suntrapp closer to Bon Iver than Nine Inch Nails. It’s a beautiful slice of indie/folk extolling the simple pleasures of life (skimming stones, chopping wood – who doesn’t get a kick out of that), but while his hands are, metaphorically, in clay, his head is, metaphorically, in heaven, with this gloriously uplifting song that appears to have been woven from the rays of the midday sun. It’s being launched with a special gig at The Pure Gallery in Whitley Bay on Friday 19 July and then Suntrapp will be playing the wonderful looking Bernicia Festival in South Shields on Sunday 4 August.
