hayleymckay19.jpg Hayley McKay: booked!

One of the region’s finest singer/songwriters Hayley McKay is all set to play an intimate gig at Durham’s wonderful People’s Bookshop in July.

We’re so on board with Hayley McKay it’s untrue. If you want to know why then take yourself off to YouTube forthwith and check out her single ‘One’. It’s dramatic, it’s theatrical and it’s got more than a hint of Kate Bush swirling around its nether regions, which, needless to say, is a very good thing. She’s best known for her Americana-tinged-tunes (she does a knockout version of Neil Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’) and is always in big demand on the festival circuit playing everything from SummerTyne to Glastonbury. Last year she released her debut album to much acclaim and you can see why such fuss is fully justified when she plays an intimate gig in Durham this month. Gonna be special.

Hayley McKay + David Neil Crabtree, Thursday 11 July, The People’s Bookshop, Saddler Street, Durham City, 7.30pm, £10/£8. facebook.com/downbytheriverdurham
