rivercoasters19.jpg Local: The River Coasters

As you can probably almost immediately tell from this pic The River Coasters are a duo. What you may not yet know is that they’re good. Really good.

And if you’re thinking: There appears to be something of a North Shields vibe about The River Coasters, then give yourself a gold star, because that’s exactly where they’re from. Names? We’re talking Sam Vallance handling vocals and a bit of percussion and Jon Lovatt doing the multi-instrumentalist thing. They announced their arrival on the scene last year with the quite wonderful ‘River Coasters EP’ that featured five songs of sunny indie-pop, which placed the emphasis firmly on warm and fuzzy vibes. They’re following it with the ‘Drifting Sands EP’, which is released in July, and, pleased to report, the lead track from it ‘Love Letter To The Sea’ (which is the only song we’ve had an advance listen to) is another winner. It’s a real strummy thing of joy, gentle but upbeat, bereft of bombast but packing real melodic chops. What’s more, they’re launching the EP with a free gig at the wonderful Exchange in North Shields. Pop along and raise a toast to the coast.
