gallagher194.jpg A trip down the coast

Gallagher & Turner’s latest exhibition features a varied selection of paintings and prints that celebrate the best of our shores.

Among the artists taking part in this group show is renowned painter Kurt Jackson (that’s his ‘Into the Cove’ pictured) whose work reflects a concern with natural history, ecology and environmental issues. And he’s just one of the artists in this show who have been drawn to the natural drama that coastal scenes evoke. The exhibition pays particular attention to the best of our shores, with a focus on the beaches and seascapes of local coasts. Among the other artists taking part are Northumberland-based Swedish artist Brita Granström, whose joyously expressive paintings bring in a brightness suffused with metaphor. Malory Maki, meanwhile, takes a more abstract approach, pulling out the rich colours, reflective surfaces and sweeping forms of the landscape. In all there will be 10+ artists taking part in a show at which you can almost feel the sea spray on your face.
