A very strong Tailwind
I’ve fallen rather heavily for these trainers, which those in the know are referring to as ‘Nike Air Tailwind 79’ (because that’s what they’re called).
The 1970s were responsible for some truly glorious trainers including the Tailwind, which saw Nike introducing ‘Air’ to their footwear arsenal, a fancy-dan new cushioning technology. They made their initial appearance at the 1978 Honolulu Marathon – of all places – before going on to conquer the western world. The reasonIlike them has little to do with their ‘Air Sole Unit’ or ‘Waffle Rubber Outsole’ (yes, it’s really called that). I’m enamoured because they’re just so darn colourful. For the past few summers I’ve been keeping it streamlined and mainly white when it comes to footwear, but this year I’m embracing the orange, I’m getting all frothy about the blue, and I’m positively wetting my pants over the yellow (appropriately enough). Put all three together and these bobby-dazzlers are the result. Couple them with some indigo-blue jeans and a smile that says yeah-I-wear-colour-now-what-of-it? and you’ll be good to go.Nike Air Tailwind 79 are about £79. hanon-shop.com
