loudmammoth19.jpg Ready steady LOUDMAMMOTH

Get your high-five hand at the ready to wave in the direction of Rachel, Will and Declan, a local band of rare note everyone is calling LOUDMAMMOTH.

I think their name is in caps. I’ve seen it written both ways. But you’d be forgiven for thinking that any band called LOUDMAMMOTH (or, indeed, Loudmammoth) would be one of those Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs style outfits only too happy to batter you round the head with some kind of sonic assault. But no. Not a bit of it. LOUDMAMMOTH are actually purveyors of the very finest jangle, harking back to classic guitar bands of yore. Case in point is their glorious new single ‘Let Go’, which sounds like an extra track off The Sundays’ fine ‘Reading, Writing and Arithmetic’ album from 1990. They only formed last August but were quickly, I believe the phrase is, “snapped up”, by Scottish label Last Night From Glasgow. And LNFG are holding their very first showcase event in Newcastle this June with LOUDMAMMOTH headlining. Should be kinda amazing.

LOUDMAMMOTH + L-Space + Stephen Solo, Friday 28 June, The Cumberland Arms, Ouseburn, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £tbc. thecumberlandarms.co.uk
