romeo19.jpg Star-crossed in Durham

‘Romeo a Juliet’ (yep, ‘a’ not ‘and’) is a dynamic collaboration between three of Wales’ outstanding arts organisations and it’s coming to light up Durham’s Gala Theatre in June.

‘Romeo a Juliet’ has been winning hearty slaps on the back wherever it has played, scooping awards as it goes. It sprang from the creative furnace that is Ballet Cymru, Coreo Cymru (Creative Producer for Dance in Wales) and the Riverport Theatre in Newport, and among the awards it has claimed is the prestigious Best Large Scale Dance Production, at the Wales Theatre Awards. It’s an extraordinary adaptation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece featuring intense fighting, passionate duels and all those universal themes echoing through dramatic and lyrical choreography. Add in exquisite costumes and remarkable video projections and you’ve got a production that is an absolute, copper-bottomed, Must See.

Romeo a Juliet, Wednesday 19 June, Gala Theatre, Durham, 7.30pm, £18/£15. galadurham.co.uk
