If you’re after a preview of the sort of stuff you can expect from the award-winning Curious Festival this year, then Northern Stage would like a word.

The Curious Festival is undoubtedly one of the queer highlights of the year and they’re staging a special taster night on 1 June featuring comedy, theatre and spoken word high-jinx. Host for the evening is Stevie Wonderful (pictured) the first ever winner of National Drag competition ‘King of the Castle’. Stevie (aka Fiona King) will be your guide for the evening and hitting you up with some of the great man’s biggest hits. ‘*gender not included’ is a one-person non-binary cabaret performance by Melody Sproates, who will by delving into identities through the use of dance hits, 80s cartoons, theme songs and Madonna. ‘L’uomo’ is short dance theatre duet from Lo-Giudice Dance centered around two men, and highlights the concerns same-sex couples still face when holding hands in public. Liverpool’s Ashleigh Owen will be taking you on a hilarious musical journey as she challenges preconceptions and stereotypes of people from marginalised identities, serenading you with her treasure trove of stupidly brilliant songs. Thrills WILL undoubtedly ensue.
