womenaremint19.jpg A woman. Being mint.

Ruth Patterson (pictured) is just one of the acts playing the three-day Women Are Mint festival, which is coming to Cobalt Studios in May.

The festival is being pulled together by Martha Hill, a woman we swooned over last year because of her very brilliant ‘Spiders’ single (this year’s ‘Reborn’ is a treat, too). We asked her what the festival was all about and she told us: “Woman Are Mint is a three-day festival celebrating female identifying artists in the north-east. With the vast majority of festival line-ups struggling to boast even a 50/50 line-up, I thought I’d help balance the overall books.” She’s put together an incredibly rich bill featuring top drawer talents such as Ruth Patterson (lead vocalist with the awesome Holy Moly & The Crackers – who snared our Album of the Month slot last month), Becca James (Newcastle singer/songwriter with a rare talent), Twist Helix (groovesome alt-pop three-piece), Ladies of Midnight Blue (Afro-Latin fusion), The Cornshed Sisters (harmonious folkies), Laurie Shepherd (exploring the gap between jazz and folk with ethereal melodies), and plenty more besides. There will also be music and DJ workshops, as well as family friendly yoga with Shanti Bee, plus stalls, food and good vibes galore.

Women Are Mint, Friday 10-Sunday 12 May, Cobalt Studios, Boyd Street, Newcastle, 7pm, weekend tickets £20 (Fri only £10, Sat only £12, Sun Pay As You Feel – click on donation ticket). Workshops Fri/Sat free – tickets needed though. cobaltstudios.co.uk
