The very chequered history of Newcastle’s The Wildhearts is about to receive a whole new chapter with the release of their first album in 10 years. They’re also on tour.

Despite several top 20 singles and a top 10 album, The Wildhearts have remained something of a cult niche. That’s probably down to their rather turbulent history involving several line-up changes and various other issues. But they’re back with their classic line up including Ginger, CJ, Ritchie and Danny and a new album in the shape of ‘Renaissance Men’, which is out on 3 May. The band’s strength has always been the ability to marry good, hard rocking riffs to massive melodies and they’ve still got the knack with this new album really hitting its straps from the get-go. CJ: “We have a monster album on its way. Danny is back in the band and we hit the road in May, playing new tunes and all the old hits. Can’t wait and the boys are super bloody excited for this. ROCK!” What he said.

The Wildhearts, Sunday 12 May, Riverside, Newcastle Quayside, 7pm, £25. riversidencl.co.uk
