Living the HAAI life
Despite growing up in a remote Australian mining town, music has always been part of HAAI’s world. She was originally a vocalist/guitarist with a shoegaze and psych band before getting into weird Thai and Turkish funk. She got switched on to the dance scene after a trip to Berlin’s notorious Berghain and started her own Coconut Beats parties in Daltson before getting her own show – of the same name – on Rinse FM. And it’s her esoteric and exotic tastes that really made people start to sit up and take notice of her, tastes accumulated over years of digging, all informing the paths less travelled she chooses to go down. You can find her winning Essential Mix up on Soundcloud, and, yep, it’s pretty essential. I can’t wait to see where she takes World Headquarters this April.
