bloxx19.jpg Cheer up BLOXX

They look like they’ve just been told they’ve got to renegotiate Brexit. In German. But they’re a glorious indie-pop proposition playing Middlesbrough and Newcastle in April which should make everyone happy.

Are you fully on board with BLOXX yet? They’ve got more bangers than Wall’s Sausages and enough lapel-grabbing sass to power them to the very top. The Uxbridge quartet have enjoyed much fluttering of eyelashes among the in-the-know press of late and with little wonder as they keep hitting us up with gems such as ‘Sea Blue’, a ringing, dinging starburst of indie sunshine that comes with every anthemic attachment that you can care to name fitted as standard. Their songs work both on Radio 1 (who championed other excellent releases from them such as ‘Lay Down’ and ‘Monday’) and BBC 6 Music and the band recently packed out a sweat-soaked gig at London’s Borderline. They’re now embarking on their biggest tour to date which, praise be, sees them playing in both Middlesbrough and Newcastle. Our advice: see both.

BLOXX: Friday 12 April, Westgarth Social Club, Middlesbrough, 7.30pm, £8; Monday 15 April, Northumbria Institute 2, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £8. seetickets.com
