Paula Varjack is an artist working with video and performance and she has plenty to get her teeth into with this show in which she uses her obsession with KENZO as a springboard to examine consumer culture. In a visually arresting performance, using video, sound and vivid imagery, she interweaves the stories of her lifelong desire for luxury, and the young Kenzo Takada’s dream of becoming a fashion designer. The world of fashion is inherently ridiculous in many ways, and Varjack skilfully uses humour to give her own take on class, race and the ways in which we interact with the world. Whether you’re a dedicated follower of fashion, or think designer labels are the biggest rip-off going, you’re sure to find plenty to enjoy here.
