New balls please
Swedish underwear brand
Björn Borg have just “dropped” their new collaboration with Ryan Hawaii who, it says here, “is one of the world’s most interesting designers working today”.
According to the press blurb attached to this new range, Ryan Hawaii’s “art-meets-clothing blurs the lines between art and fashion”. Given what these garments were constructed to house, I think it’s apt to declare such statements absolute bollocks. What Ryan Hawaii (I know, I know…) is actually doing is sticking his colourful designs on a pair of underpants. That. Is. All. There is no blurring going on here whatsoever. He spouted: “I think the contrast of the two worlds that we both respectively come from is what makes this unique.” And those two worlds in full: sub-Basquiat/Haring style graffiti art and underpants. He continues: “To see my work on underwear is a new, unique medium for my work and I think the results are astounding.” It’s a statement that makes me think Hawaii must be a man in a constant state of astoundedness if he’s bowled over by a natty pair of knickers. No matter. There are three limited edition prints available in the range that have been inspired by rain(!), tennis and Hawaii’s “own iconic signature”. See the full colourful range from the website below and prepare to be astounded.Seek: bjornborg.com
