Fancy seeing some amazing short films from around the world? Hob-nobbing with international directors? Making new contacts and meeting people? All for free? Yes? The Sunderland Shorts Film Festival 2019 would like a word…

Sunderland Shorts is celebrating its 5thbirthday in May and it’s set to be their biggest festival yet. And the organisers are seeking to recruit volunteers from throughout the region to help deliver the event. The festival is looking for over 18s who can spare a few hours here and there, between now and mid May, in the build up to the festival. Tasks are as varied as reviewing and helping to select submitted films, helping to promote the event, and, at the festival in May, volunteers become festival hosts, welcoming travelling filmmakers to the region from all over the world and helping the screenings to run smoothly.

Festival Director Anne Tye of Sunderland City Council: “We don't expect everyone to do everything. We're happy if people can give a couple of hours, but what I do know is that it can be great fun. If you are a film student or recent graduate the opportunity to network with seasoned professionals can be especially valuable, as we learned at the 2018 event. As the event approaches its 5th edition we find we have developed a great reputation with our filmmakers and we know that the quality of the films we select for screening is extremely high. Our next challenge is to grow our audience and get many more people to watch and enjoy these fantastic works.”
