jackroyalty.jpg What on earth could be up here?

When panto-ing this month it’s not just the huge ritzy productions you should be checking out. The Royalty Theatre in Sunderland always puts on a stellar show and this year they’re venturing up some kind of beanstalk...

The last time I saw ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ one of the people I was with asked, “Is this based on a true story?” That person was in her 30s. I don’t know if it was the magic beans, the angry giant or the absolutely massive beanstalk that made her think this, but, needless to say, I haven’t let her forget her ridiculous question ever since. But this is one of THE classic pantos with all the ingredients of a fantastic romp. David Farn’s take on the tale for Sunderland’s lovely Royalty Theatre will feature plenty of action, bucket loads of comedy, as well as song and dance routines by the score. It will be performed with all the customary chutzpah we’ve come to expect from the theatre and unlike some of the bigger productions around, it won’t cost you a fortune to get in, either.

Jack and the Beanstalk, Thursday 13-Sunday 23 December, The Royalty Theatre, Sunderland, 7.15pm (Sat & Sun mats 2.15pm), £6.50/£8 advance, £9/£7.50 door. royaltytheatre.co.uk
