shortsblue.jpg Attention local filmmakers!

Sunderland Shorts returns once again in May 2019 – hooray! – and they’re now open for submissions of short films from around the region.

The Sunderland Shorts festival is now a firmly established part of the north-east cultural calendar and in May they’ll be celebrating their fifth anniversary. At their last event, working with the University of Sunderland and Northumbria University, they introduced a ‘Young and Emerging’ strand for recent graduates and first time filmmakers (the above image is taken from ‘Venus’ directed by Faye Carr-Wilson, which was one of the well-received shorts screened). Festival Director Anne Tye: “We, along with our audiences and our professional jurors, were blown away by the quality of the films. What has been really interesting over the years is the gradual increase in female directors coming through, and this was reflected in our Young and Emerging submissions where we saw slightly more female directors than male.” If you fancy having your work shown then submissions are open until 1 January. Films should be no longer than 20 minutes long and completed after January 1 2017. Submitters must be aged over 18 and full terms and conditions are available on the submissions portal at the Film Freeway website: filmfreeway.com/SunderlandShorts
