Oscar Wilde’s enchanting ‘The Young King’ has been adapted for the stage by Nicki Bloom and it’s coming to The Hullabaloo this November.

A new biography of Oscar Wilde has just been issued, which I haven’t gotten around to reading yet, but I do hope it pays attention to the children’s stories he wrote, which have proved to be some of his most enduring works. In ‘The Young King’ a naïve boy raised by goatherds is discovered to be heir to the kingdom. Treasures and privileges are laid at his feet, but at what cost? The beautiful and tender language of Wilde illuminates the magical world created by the internationally acclaimed Adelaide theatre company, Slingsby, and we’re invited to journey through this land of wonder and face up to challenging choices as well as rich rewards. Suitable for ages 8+ who should arrive 30 minutes prior to the advertised performance start time for the pre-show coronation celebrations.

The Young King, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 November, The Hullabaloo, Borough Road, Darlington, 10.15am & 1.45pm, £7. theatrehullabaloo.org.uk
