The Ouseburn Open Studios event is back! Back! BACK! in November and our first port of call is going to be to Mushroom Works.

Of course, there is always a multitude of things to do, see and buy (and eat and drink) at these events, but Mushroom Works always goes above and beyond with a preview event on the Friday night as well as a full weekend of good stuff on Saturday and Sunday. They have been supporting and championing north-east artists and designers for over fifteen years now and over the course of this year’s event they are inviting visitors to peruse, purchase and commission unique and beautiful pieces from a wide selection of artwork including paintings, illustration, jewellery, ceramics, furniture and textiles. And, as ever, they will be showcasing their ever popular 20cm x 20cm artworks by regional artists priced at, yep, 20 quid. Nick James (the furniture maker who fashioned the beauty, pictured) commented: “This is a unique chance to meet artists in their creative environment. Open Studios provides a more comprehensive understanding of the thought processes and methods behind our work while offering the opportunity to purchase directly from the artists.” This year they will also be running a treasure hunt (more details on this from their website). Other venues taking part are The Biscuit Tin Studios, The Biscuit Factory, Northern Print, 36 Lime Street, Jim Edwards Studio and Kiln.
