Local: You Are The Dead
If you’re in the market for an action shot of You Are The Dead, then cop for this.
You Are The Dead have only been around for a two singles amount of time but the Whitley Bay duo have already been asked to support bands such as the Irish dubby electro purveyors of mayhem King Kong Company, and Japanese cyberpunks Psydoll. Their first single ‘Strangers’ is dripping with a doomy, swirly atmosphere and it sounds like it should be sound-tracking a straight to video early 90s exploitation film about a crazed vigilante who is on the loose with only a bazooka for company. Yep, that good. It was also remixed by Prototype2audio and included on the Northern Electric Festival NEF18 compilation album. Their latest is ‘The Mind’ which is a different beast altogether. This has a real racing heart of a beat, and that beating heart is racing because it is dancefloor bound. It tips its hat to the underground dance scene of yore and even finds room for some fabulous acid flourishes. They tell me it’s a real live favourite and I can imagine it bringing the house down when they close their sets with it. Good luck to any band having the misfortune to go on after them and having to try and top it.
